Joseph Junior Adenuga (born 19 September 1982), better known by his stage name Skepta, is an English rapper, Grime Artist, MC, songwriter, record producer and recording artist with African roots from Nigeria. Joseph began rapping whilst co-founding the independent grime collective Boy Better Know in 2006. His main style of music consists of grime fused with British hip-hop. Skepta released his debut studio album 'Greatest Hits' in late 2007 independently, followed by 'Microphone Champion' in 2009. The album produced the popular Top 100 singles "Rolex Sweep" and "Sunglasses At Night". Skepta produced the majority of the album and was also released independently.

Skepta signed to AATW in 2010 and entered into commercial success with his first Top 40 single "Bad Boy", which peaked at number 26. His highest charting single to date, "Rescue Me" peaked at number 14 in the same year. Skepta gained his third Top 40 entry with "Cross My Heart". In January 2011, Skepta's third and first non-independent studio release 'Doin' It Again' was released and charted at number 19 on the UK Albums Chart.

Skepta has released five singles from his third studio album 'Doin' It Again' (first with a major label), entitled "Bad Boy", "Rescue Me", "Cross My Heart" featuring Preeya Kalidas, "So Alive" and "Amnesia", as well as a video for "Hello Good Morning (Grime Remix)". Three singles charted in the Top 40 of the UK Singles Chart, with "Rescue Me" being the most successful at number 14. "Cross My Heart" came in at number 31 and dropped out of the Top 40 a week later. 'Doin' It Again' spent three weeks in the Top 100 album charts and debuted and peaked at number 19 on its first week of release.

In 2012, Skepta released two singles from his fourth album. Skepta's second major label album was intended to be released in the fourth quarter of 2011, entitled 'The Honeymoon' but was delayed till 2012. After a disappointing response from the first two singles, Skepta decided to release a purchasable mixtape, entitled 'Blacklisted'. It was released in December 2012 along with music videos to support the release prior to the release.
